Project Runway Rundown: From the mat to the Met

One week they're in a wrestling ring, the next they're at the Metropolitan Museum of Art — and THAT'S why we love "Project Runway."

That's not to say the latest installment of "Project Runway" was perfect — far from it, in fact, as we were treated to minimal drama and the most unnecessarily WTF ending since "Pay It Forward."

As I alluded to in my catchy lead, the designers visited a curiously empty Met for this week's challenge, in which they were to draw inspiration from a work of art.

Other than all of the other contestants (and all of America) doing a collective eye roll once Rami headed to the section with Grecian and Roman art (might he drape something this week), the highlight of the trip was Sweet P. admitting that she'd wanted to touch one of the paintings — but she didn't. Chis crack about seeing a Joan Rivers initials on the Temple of Dendur didn't make laugh as much as it should have (we get it, she's old). The rest of the time, the designers spent their visit fawning over the Met's artwork. Appropriately respectful? Sure. Interesting? Not so much. I liked it better last week when the gals and gay men were totally unaffected by the WWE Diva action.

With only five remaining candidates left (and sucky Ricky gone), there were fewer opportunities for workroom drama. The best the editors could do was Christian telling Jillian not to be bitchy, but for the most part, nothing really happened. Things got so slow that the producers apparently decided to let the air out of the tires of Sweet P's model's car to make her obscenely late for her fitting.

In fact, most of the designers — Christian, as usual, Chris and Jillian (in a huge surprise) — were ahead of schedule. Chris decided it would be a good idea to take a nap during the challenge that would send them all to Fashion Week (and that he likened to winning the lotto), while Jillian returned to her old self as she struggled to finish the bottom of her black and gold mini-dress/jacket ensemble.

I'm going to take this paragraph to crown Jillian the Unintentional Comedy Queen of this season, if only for the way that her quiet, monotone voice never, EVER changes no matter what she's talking about. She could be expressing (without much expression) how much she wants to get to Bryant Park or angrily (I THINK that was supposed to be anger) tossing aside an iron as she struggled to finish on time.

Struggling to fill time, we were "treated" to a visit from Collier Strong of the L'Oreal Hair and Makeup room — and all of America collectively decided to take a bathroom break.

Things picked up a bit the day of the runway, as Christian fierced up his hair for the big show and joked about how he'd be quick to cut his fellow contestants (are we sure he was joking?)

As much crap as I give the guy, Christian consistently and masterfully delivers eye-opening and creative outfits every week that are intricately made and have flair to spare. This week was no exception, as his Spanish painting-inspired ensemble was the deserving winner. My only disappointment is that no one pointed out the fact that he made a "puffy shirt" — Jerry Seinfeld was 15 years ahead of his time.

Jillian made a strong impression (especially on Heidi) which showed her edgy side — I know that because Jillian told us her outfit would show us her edgy side (which apparently means she'll just make another psedo-futuristic coat).

Chris also impressed the judges with pretty much the same design he and Christian produced for avant-garde week. Apparently, now we know that Chris was the real creative mind behind that outfit (though Christian was the one who reaped the reward). Chris was also fortunate that guest judge Roberto Cavalli had not seen the original dress and practically had a subtitled orgasm over Chris's creation last night.

Then there were the bottom dwellers — Sweet P's dress was certainly colorful like the peacock that inspired her, but the judges were right to point out that it was more commercial, and less high-fashion. Meanwhile, Rami (pictured, left with Tim Gunn), who spent most of his time defending his decision to be utterly boring and predictable, I mean, decision to drape, delivered one of his worst dresses. I mean, the color was pretty, but if you're going to go against everyone's advice (Nina, Tim, even Chris wondered what the hell he was thinking), at least make something REALLY nice.

Overall, this challenge was a bit of a letdown and did not measure up to the similar challenge two seasons where the designers found inspiration in the streets of NYC.

Nevertheless Christian and Jillian were given their express tickets to Fashion Week and Sweet P was (sadly) rightfully sent home. I'll miss her "I'm constantly overwhelmed" charms. The judges then announced that Chris was "in", which meant Rami was, wait for it, ALSO "in".

This was just horrible. Heidi claimed the judges were at a deadlock, but I just don't see how that can possibly be true. Sure Chris has been eliminated before, but he's improved since he's been back and you can't tell me his Fashion Week collection wouldn't be something to see. Meanwhile, Rami has proven to be arrogant, predictable and repetitive — and he gets rewarded with a chance to get to Fashion Week after a final face-off with Chris.

I don't see any deadlock. Chris should've gotten in over Rami — simple. Not to mention that the "shocking" twist was done just last season (when four designers were also allowed "in") and Heidi flat-out lied to us by telling us two people would be going home tonight. Other than all that, I had no problem with the way the show ended.

So what'd you think of this episode? Did you hate the ending as much as I did? Is there any way Christian doesn't win? Finally, who ya got going to Bryant Park? Chris or Rami? (Go Chris: I don't even care that Rami was my choice to win after the first ep.)
